BILLINGS - Finding the best exercise for weight loss may mean more than just one exercise program, personal trainer Jaysun Mims says.

“No matter what exercises you do, you want to get the heart rate up,” Mims says, “Either way, lifting weights, and/or cardio-wise, you’re going to burn calories.”

People may be attracted to cardio-vascular exercises because of their potentially higher calorie burning benefit, but Mims says there is a bigger picture. Even though cardio exercise can burn potentially more calories, the addition of weight lifting or other strength training will continue to burn calories, while adding important benefits.

“If you have someone who is obese, and, if all they did was cardio, that skin, their muscle is just going to flab. If you lift weights as well as doing cardio, you’re going to tone-up as well,” Mims says.
