TRA's Future

BILLINGS - The Two Rivers Authority Detention Center has been getting a lot of attention lately since the controversial company American Police Force got involved. While the deal brought lots of negative attention to Hardin, area officials said they're ready to move on.

"If we knew now what we knew then would we have done something differently? Certainly I think we would have," said TRA Vice President Al Peterson. "We made the best decisions we could have based on the information we had at that time."

The Hardin jail is just one of many projects TRA is working on to bring economic development to the area. They're also looking to create a coal to liquids plant and hoping to bring more businesses to their already operating industrial park.

"We have an industrial park that's ready," said TRA board member Bill Joseph. "The water's there. The sewer is there. The electric is there. Everything's ready. Some places that advertise an industrial park; you go there and there's 40 acres with a sign in the middle (saying) 'proposed industrial park.' Were not like that. We've got streets in, lights, everything. It's ready. Somebody wants to come in and do some manufacturing. Boom. They're ready to go."

When the detention center was set to open with a 300-bed contract with Wyoming, Gov. Schweitzer contacted the state of Wyoming and informed them it was illegal to do business with Hardin.
