BILLINGS - Former Billings police officer turned real-estate agent Tom Hanel can now add ‘mayor’ to his list of titles. KULR-8 Staff spoke with Hanel Tuesday night after he secured nearly 70% of the vote.

He said he wants to improve communication and will give the job his all.
“The main reason I ran for mayor was to serve the citizens of Billings and to show that I can be a leader, an ambassador” said Hanel, “and to do the best I can to promote the city and to be the best mayor possible.”

Also Tuesday night, the race for Ward Two which represents the Heights turned out to be one of the closest races of the election. Angela Cimmino beat James Knox by fewer than 200 votes.

"I'm so excited right now,” said Cimmino, “I'm very very grateful to have this opportunity to be a positive voice for the community and specifically Ward Two."

Elections officials said turnout was about 42%. The results are still considered unofficial because they have yet to count ballots dropped off around town Tuesday.
