Fair Goes Green

BILLINGS - Year after year, thousands of people attend MontanaFair, creating thousands of pounds of trash. But this year, fair officials say they have a plan to cut down on the garbage.

Instead of providing bottled water for performers, staff is now supplying entertainers with water dispensers. Food vendors are no longer offering paper trays for food served on a stick to cut down on paper trash. And all plastic, aluminum and cardboard is collected and recycled by VIP Services.

"What we're trying to do is collect some of that plastic, aluminum cans and cardboard and if it's not going to a landfill, at least make better use of it," said Kirk Hansen, Co-Owner of VIP Services.

VIP Services say they see about 6,000-to-8,000 pounds of trash throughout the week.
