BILLINGS - The moment hundreds of organizers have been working toward for months officially kicked off Friday: MontanaFair.

Eleven-year old Sydney McQuire is entering her chickens in seven categories in this years Small Animal Division at the MontanaFair. It's her third year in the 4-H program and she prides herself on being the only chicken breeder in her Ballantine club.

"The little black one of the chicks is my favorite because he's an odd ball like me," says Sydney McQuire. Besides these chickens, there are another 400 small animals on display at this years Rabbit and Poultry Show.

Organizers say that's fewer animals than in year's past. This year's show has been moved into the Expo Center, and they say the change may provide a boost in popularity.

"A lot of people have actually quit just because it's so hot down there and your animals get stressed being down there too. So I think with the move into this barn there's going to be a lot more interest in future years," says Katrina Britton, Clerk with the Small Animal Division.

Organizers say they've already seen more foot traffic in their first day. They hope the attention will continue so little one's like Sydney can continue to get support for something they love to do. "If I have a bad day I just go and hang out with them," says McQuire.

Volunteers at the Expo Center say people are welcome to come in and hold the small animals, just make sure to ask someone for help. They will be on display all week starting at 8:00 a.m.
