BILLINGS - Yellow ribbons have come to symbolize support for our troops and a wish for their safe return. But the ones now lining Highway 312 have a more specific meaning meant for Sergeant Terry Lynch.

"Remembrance, thank you and we love you," said Deanna Avent with the VFW.

"It's really so we can honor Terry for what he's done and to let his family know how much he meant to us and what he did for his country," said Shari Mobraaten, another volunteer.

Volunteers are tying yellow ribbons along the road from Shepherd, Terry's hometown, to Billings, where his funeral will be held on Thursday.

"It's his last journey and we want the ribbons to be there," said Mobraaten. And no matter how long it takes, volunteers say the ribbons will be there; lining Highway 312 for the journey from the church to the Shepherd cemetery. Twenty-five miles of honor for a hero who won't soon be forgotten.

A public vigil for Sergeant Lynch will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. at St. Bernard's Parish in the Billings Heights.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the same location. Graveside services will follow at the Shepherd Cemetery.
