BILLINGS - Yellowstone County Commissioners say they want to pay their heart felt respects to Sheriff Chuck Maxwell and will wait until he's laid to rest before beginning to think about a replacement.

Yellowstone County Commissioner Bill Kennedy says Maxwell was an outstanding sheriff, public servant and all around great man. Having served as sheriff for the last 16 years, his friends say he always had the community's best interest in mind. "There's going to be a hole left there from his passing, but his legacy will live on. He's done a super job for us," said Kennedy.

Commissioners could meet as soon as next week to talk about appointing a new sheriff to finish out Maxwell's term which ends next year. Until then Undersheriff Jay Bell is acting sheriff.
