BILLINGS - Tammy Murphy, a Huntley Project Elementary teacher, is this month's Gold Star Winner.

It is an award given by KULR-8 and the Montana Rib and Chop House to outstanding educators in our area. Murphy teaches the first grade. She was nominated by a parent for helping students cope with the tragic death of one of their classmates last year.

Murphy said she loves to see the growth in her students from the beginning of the school year to the end. She teaches her kids that winning is not everything and to be proud of themselves.

"You show respect to the kids and you give all you have and they're going to give that back to you," said Mrs. Murphy. "Every student is themselves and you need to respect that and appreciate that in every child you see every day."

Gold Star recipients receive a gift certificate to the Rib and Chop House and a $250 check to use in their classroom. Murphy said she will use the money to by some new books.
