BILLINGS - As Mexico reported cases of the swine flu leveling off, 5 new states across the U.S. confirmed cases Thursday.

The Department of Health and Human Services has tested 100 cases since Tuesday and all are showing up as the seasonal flu, not swine flu. But like the rest of the country, local officials are making plans for its potential arrival.

School District 2 Superintendent Jack Copps says they're sending out memos on staying healthy and what to do if a child comes to school sick. "I think if we have any cases in Yellowstone County we will closely consider the possibility of closing schools temporarily," says Copps.

The CDC is advising schools to shut down if a student comes down with the swine flu. Officials stress people should keep in mind, 34,000 people die every year from the seasonal flu virus. It is most dangerous to those who are very old, very young or have compromised immune systems.

People who are sick are urged to cover their mouths when coughing or sneezing, wash hands and stay home from work or school.
