Do you wash your hands correctly?

BILLINGS - As swine flu fear spreads globally, experts keep pushing people to wash their hands thoroughly but most people don't wash their hands correctly.

"So you want to use tepid water and friction is what kills the bacteria so you want to spend at least 15 seconds washing your hands once you've gotten lather," said Billings Clinic Nurse Kristen Loper.

The nurse explained 15 seconds is the equivalent to singing the happy birthday song or ABC song a couple times. "Two seconds isn't going to do much of anything. You want to pay attention to between your fingers, the backs of your hands, around your finger nails, and any jewelry you might have on," said Loper.

"When you're rinsing your hands you want to keep your fingers pointed downward and once you've dried off your hands take a clean paper towel to turn off the sink so you're not touching the dirty sink with your hands that you just cleaned."
