BILLINGS - There have been 21 airplane crashes in Montana since March of last year; four fatal crashes totaling 17 victims.

With Sunday's crash in Butte killing 14, and the fatal crash of veteran pilot Sparky Imeson last Tuesday near Helena, this month is shaping up to be one of the deadliest on record for the state.

The National Transportation Safety Board showed that in the past 10 years, 76 people have died in airplane crashes in Montana, with the highest incidence of those occurring in the Belgrade area.

By comparison, Wyoming has seen 16 plane crashes in the past year, three have been fatal. Idaho has had 37 crashes since March of 2008, five of which have been deadly.
