MILES CITY - Friday night's shooting took place outside of the Golden Spur Bar in Miles City. While nothing illegal happened inside the bar, the owners say the incident could have a permanent impact on their business.

John and Robin Tooke bought the bar 20 years ago and said they were shocked to hear that someone had been shot outside of the bar. John said the two men who were involved in Friday night's shooting had been in before, but he don't think Catherine Woods, the female victim, was ever a customer.

"We think of it as being like a local Cheers bar," John Tooke said. Where the employees know the customers and the customers know each other and everybody gets along for the most part.

Yellow paint specks in the parking lot outside the bar mark evidence from Friday's shooting. The Tookes hope it doesn't leave a permanent mark on their business.

"This isn't a PR coup," John said. "We'll take steps to mitigate the damage and we're hopeful the community will carry us through this." Though the shooting could hurt business, the Tookes said right now they're more concerned about the families of the victims.

"We send our sincere sympathy out to the families involved," Robin said. And they wonder how a town of about 8,500 people will recover from such a tragedy.

"As in any smaller, everybody shares in everybody's problems," John said. The Tookes said despite the turmoil created by the shooting, they plan to keep their regular business hours.
