BILLINGS - KULR-8's first Gold Star Teacher Award of the school year goes to a Hardin educator who has already received national honors.

Roxanne Not Afraid, who teaches 4th grade, was honored last month as the National Indian Education teacher of the year. Not Afraid said her goal is to teach lessons that can be applied beyond the classroom.

"Teaching has a lot to do with content and curriculum, but, teaching also has a lot to do with teaching them to be good people, to be good community members, how to be responsible and how to be individuals who are caring," said Not Afraid.

Not Afraid said she will let her class help decide how to spend the $250 dollar Gold Star Award winnings.
