Huntley Football Game has Extra Meaning

By Nick Lough

WORDEN - Huntley Project takes on Townsend Friday, but everyone says this game has taken on meaning more than just the final score.

As the Huntley Project High School continues to smolder a day after burning to the ground, the community's attention has turned from tragedy to its Friday night football game.

"It's going to be huge especially since what we've gone through the last 24 hours," said Huntley Project Cheerleader Kenda Sivak. "We still got our school spirit everything it just still us. Our devil domes still up in shambles but we're strong and we'll get through it."

Officials expect a sellout capacity crowd as the entire community comes together at one football game. "It makes you feel really good. its like we got a lot of people coming to cheer us on it make you feel good and gives you extra incentive to go out their and play harder," said Huntley Project football player Austin Buzanowski.

But students say this game is more than winning and losing, more that whatever the final score indicates. They hope it acts as a message to others that Huntley Project will recover and these people can move forward. "I'd like the community to get together and just be there for everybody because it's hard for all of us to get through," said Huntley Project cheerleader Georganna Covington.

As for the football game and festivities, cheerleaders say it'll be business as usual. "We're just going to go out there and be our normal cheerleaders and be as loud as we can and get everyone riled up and going," said Sivak. And in a time the community needs it the most these students say they're ready to lead.
