Burnout Helps Contain Gunbarrel Fire

By Madelyn Jarrett

WYOMING - Fire fighters completed a successful burnout as the Gunbarrel Fire nears 60,000 acres.

The burnout reduced fuels in the area above Elephant Head Lodge, strengthening containment lines. The fire grew Tuesday due to winds and a red flag warning was issued for Wednesday. The Elephant Head Lodge and Goth Creek Lodges remain under evacuation.

A type one incident command is now managing the blaze. Nearly 350 people are fighting the fire and so far, firefighting efforts have cost more than $7 million dollars.
