BILLINGS - The Gunbarrel Fire burning 40 miles west of Cody as crews continue to protect several structures near the fire.

At last check the Gunbarrel Fire has burned well over 40,000 acres or roughly 62 square miles. Officials say lightning sparked the blaze on July 26. So far, firefighting costs add up to more than $4,000,000 dollars.

Thursday crews will monitor fire activity in the Big Creek area and continue to work on the protection of structures and critical resources.
