Ski Tips: Snowboarding

By Nick Lough

RED LODGE - Some say you can compare snowboarders and skiers to the Hatfields and the McCoys. Plain and simple the two groups don't tend to get along.

"A lot of the snowboarding culture is really influenced by music and art so the outfits and clothing really reflect that," said Snowboarder Emory Robinson. Robinson is one of dozens of snowboarders trying to pull off some big tricks in front of his peers at Red Lodge Mountain.

"Pretty much snowboarding is about having fun and you might as well be a goof when you're doing it," said Red Lodge Mountain's Deke Purinton. Purinton is the host of a snowboarding competition put on at Red Lodge Mountain.

Robinson says its not always about the big tricks however; he says at the end of the day he just enjoys catching some big air and the feeling that comes along with it. "Floating in the air is a really exhilarating experience because coming to the ground that fast just thinking I really want to do and land what I'm thinking I want to do," said Robinson.

Coming up next in Ski Tips we'll be trading the snowboards back for ski's and we'll show you how to safely go off "big air" jumps without hurting yourself.
