Ski Tips: Moguls

By Nick Lough

RED LODGE - Mastering moguls is never an easy task but with a little hard work and correct placement of poles mastering the mogul is a possibility.

"We just had a bunch of snow up here at Red Lodge Mountain so Friday they're going to be pretty soft and forgiving," said Red Lodge Mountain's Eliza Kuntz. "There's a lot of different ways to ski moguls and they're very intimidating to most skiers and snowboarders and one reason is because folks don't know how to ski them."

Kuntz says to be successful you really need to think about working on pole touches. She says it's really going to help in the bumps. "It's difficult for some more than others," said Kuntz. "I pole touch and slide into this next mogul and then stop."

What is the biggest thing people struggle with in the moguls? "I think the biggest thing is trusting what you're doing is getting you to go to the next mogul," said Kuntz.

Next week in Ski Tips, we'll revisit pole plants and carving so we can eventually head into the trick park and show a different kind of skiing that's literally taking off.
