What's Up With This Cave?

By Keagan Harsha

CODY, WYOMING- Rumor has it, there is a cave just west of Cody that could be described as magical. That's because it reportedly contains the signature of the legendary Walt Disney. The cave's colorful history dates back to 1908 when it was discovered by a mountain lion hunter. Buffalo Bill Cody visited the cave in 1909, and shortly there after President Taft declared it a national monument.
It's a relatively unknown wonderland today. The cave is no longer a national monument, and less than 400 people visit it every year, but in the 1950's and 60's when Disney reportedly left his signature, it was a wonderland to be reckoned with. The cave has since shrunk. Three of it's eight levels were closed off, and the steps and ladders have disappeared. That means today's visitors have to be in shape. They also have to come prepared. While navigating the tunnels can be tricky, it's this adventurous spirit that makes this cave a wonderland that Walt Disney would be proud of.
