BILLINGS - School's out for the summer, but for some teachers and students, they are back in the classroom and learning.

Dozens of students and teachers from Billings were at Will James Middle School at the West End to learn more about music, as a part of Montana Music Institute's summer music camp. Throughout the week, students learned how to play the instruments, and on Thursday, instructors at the music camp gave the students a private concert. On Friday, it will be the student's turn, performing to an audience at Will Jame's gym.

"I love the chance to work with the kids all week, and then to get to perform to them, and show them what you can do when you work really hard and practice," said Amy Logan, a Choir teacher at Skyview High School who has been a part of the Music Institute's music camp for almost 6 years.

This is the 27th year for the camp. Kids of all ages were present to learn more about music. Organizers hope the music camp would foster curiosity in other music instruments.

"The most important thing for us is the love of music, that they'll want to pursue it when they leave our halls. That they'll want to continue with whatever instrument has really sparked an interest for them," said Nancy Van Maren, who hosted the concert on Thursday.

Kids at the concert said they are awestruck by their instructor's aptitude.

"I thought it was really good. It was interesting to watch everybody play these interesting pieces," said Morgan Peck.

Organizers hope they will be able to host another event of similar proportions in 2012. For more information about the Montana Music Institute, click on Connections.
