BILLINGS - It was a hit heard around the country, but probably more important to the little leaguers around Lewis and Clark Middle School.

"I was very excited because I know Ben personally. I had a lot of classes with him last year. I just felt great for him, I thought it was great for him to do that because you don't get to see miracles that often," said Lewis and Clark student David Holmes.

"We were at MSU-B, and we all went crazy when Ben hit that homer," said Lewis and Clark student Maclean Turner.

Eight of the boys attend Lewis and Clark Middle School and their fellow classmates can't think of a better way to start off the school year.

"I am so proud; it's beyond belief of what they were able to accomplish out there. And their attitudes are just great. They're not cocky, they're very humble out there, representing Montana out there very well," said Lewis and Clark student Jean Ann Lemelin.

"I can't wait for them to come back with a good win," said Lewis and Clark student Skeff Thomas.

Their principal, Steve Pomroy couldn't be more proud. He said the staff members are already planning the boys' homecoming.

"We've been celebrating everyday. America loves the underdog, and we've been the underdog," said Pomroy. "We're decorating lockers, and next week we'll have a welcome back ice cream social the whole school, the players are coming back."

Pomroy said teachers want the All-stars to focus on the game for now, and they're working on ways for the boys to transition back into school easily.

Most of the kids plan to watch the championship game Saturday at Petro Hall.
