Voice Over Artist

BILLINGS - You may not recognize his face, but his voice has probably encouraged you to buy or sell something or go somewhere and he is able to do it all from the comfort of his home.

Jeff Howell is a voice over artist. He cuts his TV and radio spots from his home outside Columbus in a humble recording studio which is his kid's old basement bedroom.

"I'm usually in my sweats and slippers, so yeah I dressed up for ya," laughed Howell.

He made the move to full time voice over artist a few years ago after more than 25 years as a radio broadcaster.

"It's very competitive, but on the other hand there's a lot of work out there too," said Howell about his profession.

He lends his pipes to Disney, collegiate sports, and Broadway, and he is able to do it all while still living where he loves.

"Honestly I love being home with my kids, that's the coolest part," said Howell.

Although his voice pays the bills and is heard by the masses, do not ask him to listen to it, "I hate my voice, I just hear it every day and it drives me nuts!"

If your desk job is driving you nuts, Howell has this advice for making a home office work for you.

"Know that you have to have that consistency of going to your office every day," he said. "That's why I have my studio it's my office; when I come down at 6 a.m. I'm here until 4, 5 or 6 in the evening. It's an office but I still get to live out here," smiled Howell.

Howell used to commute to work in Billings from Columbus every day which he said got tedious during the winter time, so he is glad the move to full time voice over work paid off.

Jeff was always the greatest guy. I used to work with him at either KBMY or KZLS. I haven't seen him in years. I'd love to get in contact with him or vice versa!!! Great story!
