Pompeys Pillar's Local Celebrity

POMPEYS PILLAR – There isn't much in the town of Pompeys Pillar. In fact, there's only one business still thriving in the small community – the Lewis and Clark Tavern.

Inside you'll meet a man who's opened and closed the bar everyday for the last 50 years. His name is Leo Miller. He never calls in sick and works every holiday.

Miller moved to Pompeys Pillar in his late 20s. At first he was a stranger to the residents, but now he's a local celebrity.

"It's treated me real good, so I can't complain," said Miller.

This weekend the town that Miller's served for 5 decades will be celebrating him – their favorite bartender. Hundreds will gather for a car show, hot dog eating contest and Miller's favorite event: the wiener dog race.

"You just never know what to expect."

Although Miller's growing old, he says he's not slowing down and that he's ready to serve the town for years to come.

The Leo Miller celebration starts at noon on Saturday in downtown Pompeys Pillar.
