BILLINGS - You can tell by his name and accent he is not from here.
"My name is Michal Laco," he said introducing himself with a thick accent.
Mike Laco, 19, is from Bratislava, the capitol city of of Slovakia; a central European country of more than 5-million people.
He has traveled half way around the world for a summer internship with Master Lube in Billings.
"I am here to experience the business," he said.
You may ask, "Why Master Lube?" "Why Billings?" Well, he's following in his father's footsteps.
"My father was here back in 1994," said Laco.
His father formed a friendship with Master Lube Chairman Bill Simmons.
"It was just four years after the Slovakian revolution and the fall of communism in Slovakia and the business in Slovakia was in the beginnings so my father came here to see and experience the business and to use it as an example back in Slovakia," said Laco. His father currently runs one of the largest lube centers in their hometown.
"First day he was here he was changing oil by himself, he's doing a great job," said Chad Godfrey, assistant manager at Master Lube. "He's a smart young man and it's fun to have him around. The customers are really interested in what he's doing and why he's here. They ask a lot of questions and it's just a fun deal."
Laco said one of the biggest differences between here and his country is the size of our rides.
"You've go trucks everywhere," he said. "It's just amazing. You wouldn't be able to park anywhere in Bratislava with such cars!"
Laco will call Billings and his friends at Master Lube home for the next month. Then it is off to university in Great Britain, where he will apply what he learned from a Big Sky business in the global marketplace.
Before heading home, Laco said he will definitely visit Yellowstone National Park.
