BILLINGS - A Billings non-profit is hoping its move to the center of downtown will boost business.
The Wise Penny in Downtown Billings has been fulfilling the second hand fashion needs of the community for more than sixty years, but now it's giving itself a bit of a lift.
The non-profit Thrift Shop has moved its location from Historic Montana Avenue to a bigger and more desirable location on 29th street, and it opened its new doors this week. "We are now on the beaten path of everything going on downtown, so it's really good for us," says Kristie Boelter, General Manager of Wise Penny.
The upscale second hand store is run by the Junior League of Billings, a women's organization dedicated to improving the community through volunteer work. Through their sales each year, the group donates more than $100,000 dollars to various community programs.
"We choose a new organization each year. In the past they've donated to the Women's Family Shelter and been involved in getting the Venture Theater into schools," says Boelter.
Employees say with the more and more people looking for a bargain, they're trying to meet shoppers needs by offering quality clothing at a discounted price. "We aren't the general thrift store, we've picked through a lot to save you time, so that when you come in, you'll find the quality is going to be good."
One of the biggest changes at the Wise Penny's new location is their focus on wedding dresses, employees say, just in time for wedding season. Officials with the Junior League of Billings say they are always in need of more volunteers looking to get involved in the community.
