BILLINGS - Some very special athletes will compete this weekend in the Yellowstone Area Special Olympics. And one of them who has been involved for almost 25 years, has some advice on what they're all about for her younger competitors.

With a lot of clapping, laughing and a hearty "Good job Lawrence," Brandy Peterson prepares for this weekend's games, like she's done for about 25 years. Her attitude and effort have kept her going through years of wins, losses and tough practices. "Tuesdays and Thursdays I practice track and field and swimming. And then on Saturdays I have soccer and Mondays I have soccer." "Brandy is a hard worker, she tries to help everybody else, gives 110%," says local coordinator Pattie Minchew. Peterson gives 110% percent in all of her events including soccer, freestyle swimming, breast stroke and shot put.

It isn't the medals and ribbons she's won through the years that Peterson values most. She says her biggest accomplishment is being chosen as Athlete of the Year in October, but she's really in it for the good times, "Meeting new people and just having fun," says Peterson.

Peterson and other athletes compete this Saturday in different events around Billings. However the track and field events for Yellowstone area games will be April 30th.

"In Special Olympics they help each other out, encourage each other, and there's a great camaraderie," says Minchew. All traits Peterson exemplifies, in the spirit of Montana.
