BILLINGS - A woman from Terry, Montana was honored for her outstanding service with the American Red Cross. Tessa Shumway covers 13 counties.

Most recently she helped out in Miles City because of the downtown fire. She's the local disaster chair, the statewide co-chair, an instructor and a volunteer recruiter. Now she's receiving the National Disaster Response and Preparedness Award.

She says the gratitude she sees in victims' faces is why she does it. "We had a house fire in Miles City where 2 children were killed and what I was able to do for them. And it wasn't a lot, but the gratitude shown to us by the family and just the feeling there was something we could do."

Tessa was honored at a dinner Thursday night in Washington D.C.
