Ted's Electric Says Goodbye

BILLINGS - A long time Billings business said goodbye to customers after 55 years of service on New Year's Eve. And in the spirit of Montana, they went out with a bang and a band and a party.

Music is part of life for Barry Beringer, it always has been. So it's fitting that he, and Ted's Electric, said goodbye to customers and friends of many years with a party and a jam session. "Ted's Electric was started by my father in 1953, we basically repair tolls, rewind motors," says Beringer. Barry's first job was working for his dad and in 1970 they became partners. The store is in its 5th, and final, location.

But Barry says it's not the Billings economy that is forcing him out. "It's just time for me to do something different," says Beringer. What that is, Beringer's not sure. For now he's just saying goodbye, cleaning up shop and reminiscing.

After having the store in the family for so many years, Beringer says it's hard for some of his brothers. But that's not the way he sees it. He wanted to close this chapter of his life with a celebration, the way his dad Ted would have wanted. "When my father died we had a party much like this one. Life is a celebration, you have to enjoy friends and enjoy music," said Beringer. Ted's Electric closed their doors on December 31st.
