Kid Archer

JOLIET - In the spirit of Montana, a local Joliet boy traveled to Wales for the World Archery Championships.

Dugan Denton is 11-years-old. "I'm almost 12," says Dugan. And after getting back from Wales for the World Field Archery Championships, his class came to watch and cheer him on as he did a demonstration for us, leaving Dugan, "Uhhhhh, speechless. It was embarrassing."

But he has nothing to be embarrassed about. Dugan shoots a consistent straight shot. And that's with no professional training. Dugan's father is his only source of information and support. "My dad's taught me everything I know and he can't really teach me anything else because that's all he knows. And most of the people I shoot with they shoot the same as I do and they know as much as I do," says Dugan.

Although Dugan and his family believe that one day he will be in the Olympics, for now Dugan is enjoying the sport every step of the way. "You meet a lot of friends just going to places and you know these friends won't ditch you because people at school they change but people in archery they don't change."

The Denton's want to continue to travel to tournaments and support their son but Dugan knows traveling, especially to Wales, isn't cheap. The Denton family is still struggling to pay off bills from the trip. They have an account set up at Avanta Federal Credit Union in Laurel to accept monetary donations.

For other donations you can contact Dugie Denton at (406) 628-0722 or by email at zoniee72@msn.com, subject line: Dugan Archery.
