Sherri Steilen's Breast Cancer Story

BILLINGS - It's probably safe to think that Sherri Steilen would not forget Spring 2011, when she discovered that something was wrong.

"I started having some problem back in the spring. I could really feel some throbbing and pulsing," said Steilen.

Steilen went to the doctors, and before she was due for a scan, she did a self-examination, and discovered there were lumps. In mid-October, Steilen had a Bilateral Mastectomy.

"He just drew me a picture of what I was going through, and put a big 'x' through both of them, and I walked out of there in a daze," said Steilen, remembering the time when her doctor told her what they were going to do.

Steilen said her surgery went well, but days after the surgery, doctors discovered microscopic cancer cells in one of her Lymph Nodes.

"I can't even hardly believe how fast it all happened, and how everything has turned out," said Steilen, barely holding back tears.

Steilen said she is waiting for word on what will happen next. She is expecting a Pathology report on Monday. Meanwhile, she said her friends and family are getting her through the tough days, especially one close friend.

Jennifer Moore is a survivor herself, having beat the same type of Breast Cancer Steilen is going through in 2008, and Moore is standing by Steilen to guide her and inspire her.

"She has been a trooper. Absolutely taken this journey from Day One with a smile on her face," said Moore.

It's support Steilen said makes the journey that much easier.

"Your head just spins around with scary stuff, and then, they say something comforting, and you just start to relax and feel better," said Steilen.
