BILLINGS - A new report shows the percentage of women in Wyoming that smoke while pregnant is more than double the national average.

The Annie E. Casey foundation says 20% admitted to smoking during their pregnancy. The percentage of women is staying relatively consistent only dropping 1% since 1993.

Director of Kids Count Research Group, Marc Homer, said women need to be informed of risks while receiving prenatal care, “We know that having a community that supports a smoke free environment is important and that will help drive numbers down.”

The report also found that more Wyoming teens are having babies, and more babies are born to unmarried mothers.
