Kidney Stones in Children

By Jared Bray

BILLINGS - To the surprise of both doctors and parents, kidney stones and other disorders usually associated with adults, are starting to develop more frequently in children.
"We are seeing illnesses that we usually see in the middle age group like obesity, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, gallstones and things like that, which are usually associated with 40-year-old men. Now all of the sudden we are seeing them in the pediatric population much more frequently," said Billings Clinic Pediatrician Michelle Pierson.
To avoid such disorders, doctors say kids should refrain from foods and drinks that contain large amounts of salt, sodium and sucrose.
