BILLINGS- A new exercise program in billings is helping new mom's get back into shape while spending time with their little ones. Stroller Strides allows moms to workout, with their children by their sides. Instructor and owner Molly Reas says it's extremely important for new moms to stay active. "during and post pregnancy you know your body goes through a lot of changes and it's in your best interest and your child's best interest for you to be in your best shape"
The hour-long class incorporates cardio workouts paired with body toning exercises in addition to songs and activities to keep the children engaged. But getting back into physical shape is not the only benefit to taking the class. New mom Kaycee Sewchok says the program also offers emotional support and says it helped her through a difficult time when her son was first born. "I actually did suffer from postpartum depression when I had him so I think it helped a bunch just to get out and visit with other moms."
Reas says community is very important for new mothers like Sewchok and says that's what sets the exercise program apart from other fitness classes. "it's not just about getting into shape. It's about the community of it, the motherhood, the being with your child."
Sewchok says the class also has a positive impact on the kids. By watching their moms work out, it shows them the importance of staying fit. "I think it helps start them on an early habit very early in life so it is a very positive influence in their life as well."
Stroller strides is held every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at Pioneer Park from 9 a.m.-10a.m. For more information on the class you can visit www.strollerstrides.net/billings.
