BILLINGS - Warmer weather can bring more fun in the sun, but there are some precautions to keep in mind before heading outdoors.

Experts say it's more likely for people to burn after the winter months. Dermatoligists say it's important to wear sunscreen when heading outside, but it's even more important to shade yourself from the sun. They recommend keeping an eye on any moles you may have, especially new ones, or any that change size, shape or color. The most deadliest skin cancer, melanoma, is the most common cancer among young adults, and can surface years after extreme sun exposure.

"It is often caused by bad sunburns during childhood and then is also more likely if you have a family history of it. That's why it's so important to protect our children from sun exposure," says Dr. Phillip Tallman, Dermatologist.

Tallman says many people are surpised to know they can be exposed to UVA rays through a window, which can cause aging and increase your risk for skin cancer. Although melanoma can be deadly, he says it's also easily treatable if found early.
