BILLINGS - The United States has a higher teen pregnancy rate than any other industrial country. Wednesday May 6th was dedicated to informing teens on how to protect themselves.

Between 2005 and 2006 Montana's teen birth rate increased 13% according to the CDC. And 33% of sexually active teens reported they didn't use protection during their last sexual encounter.

"Anytime a teen has a pregnancy and a birth in high school, it decreases their chance of completing high school and increases not only their chances of living in poverty but their children's chances of living in poverty for the rest of their lives," says Stacy James with Planned Parenthood.

James says one way to decrease Montana's teen pregnancy rate would be to teach prevention in school sex education classes. Currently Montana schools teach abstinence only.
