Peanut Allergy Cure?

BILLINGS - Peanut allergies are one of the most deadly. People who are allergic to peanuts can go into anaphylactic shock upon contact, causing their throat to close, but there is new hope.

A European research team is working to desensitize people with peanut allergies, giving them small doses of peanut flour. Dr. Kathleen Davis said there is still a lot of work to be done in this study, but the results look promising.

"The goal of the study is not to allow people to eat peanuts at will. It's to make them safe to accidental exposure to peanuts. So it's not like a cure all," she said.

Dr. Davis said if results continue to be promising, Billings Clinic might offer peanut desensitizing treatments within the year.
