BILLINGS - Many of us are looking for a quick and easy way to lose a few pounds.
Sunday night at the Academy Awards, Hollywood's brightest stars were looking fabulous in their dresses.
Many stars are said to use detox diets to fit into those gowns. A popular one is called the Master Cleanse Diet, also known as the Lemonade Diet.
Six to twelve times a day for about 14 days, you are allowed to drink a mix of water, lemon or lime juice, maple syrup, and cayenne pepper.
Jodie Pekovich, registered dietician at Billings Clinic, said you will lose weight, but you are setting yourself up for future weight gain.
"Every time you do this and you go into a starvation mode your metabolism goes down, meaning before maybe you needed 1,800 calories to keep at your current weight but now you've suppressed your metabolism so that 1,600 is going to keep you at your current weight, and each time that happens it makes it more difficult to lose weight in the future," said Pekovich.
She added that your body can detox by itself.
The majority of the weight you lose on a diet like this Pekovich said is water and muscle weight.
