BILLINGS - Students at Arrowhead Elementary School in Billings are being recognized for pulling in a record number of donors at a recent blood drive.
The students recruited more than 60 donors last week.
United Blood Services said that is more than five times the number of donors they usually get, and enough to save 250 lives.
The students will be recognized with the new Hero in Me award given by United Blood Services in an effort to promote the importance of donating blood.
They will be honored Friday morning during an assembly at Arrowhead.
Kim Sapone, UBS donor recruitment supervisor, said the recession is changing the way they go about receiving donations, as fewer businesses are willing to let employees donate on the clock.
Sapone said historically, large corporations have been their largest suppliers during work-day blood drives.
