BILLINGS - A Billings medical technologies company is in the business of protecting you from unnesessary radiation exposure.
Tech-Time is the U.S. provider of Clarity, a computer software application that reduces the amount of radiation patients receive during X-rays and CT scans.
On a before and after of a scan, you can see how the image is made more clear when the Clarity software applied to it.
Clarity enhances the image quality while lowering the radiation dosage.
Radiation is cumulative, and experts say the less you are exposed to it the better.
"It's a fairly new technology so it's getting the word out," said Ken Kellum, clinical specialist for Tech-Time. "They're really gearing the software towards the pediatric market where exposure to radiation in children is very risky."
A Swedish imaging services company called Sapheneia developed the software.
It has been used in Europe, and was approved by the FDA in 2007.
Several major medical centers are using the software on a trial basis.
