Study Says Interval Training Helps Metabolic Syndrome

By Naomi Pescovitz

BILLINGS - A new study recommends changing your workout routine in order to fight metabolic syndrome, a condition that can lead to heart disease and diabetes.

The study shows aerobic interval training is the key. It is a type of exercise focusing on short spurts of intense activity. But some doctors say the study may not be practical, because many people who suffer from metabolic syndrome are obese and do not exercise at all. For them, it is more important to just be active than to focus on more strenuous exercises.

"The message is that you've got to be physically active, you've got to avoid or eliminate obesity, in order to prevent the development of the condition," Family Practice Physician, Dr. Daniel Gall Said.

Doctors say that you can reduce the risk of metabolic syndrome by doing and hour of physical activity at least five days a week.
