Texas Roadhouse - Steak Education

By Emily Nantz

John Socha, Managing Partner with Texas Roadhouse, shows us how to grill a great steak.

First John recommends putting butter or oil on the grill and turn the heat on. That will put nice lines on your steak.

Then grab a tray or cast iron skillet and set it on your grill, let it heat up, then add butter to that. Season your steak with whatever seasoning you like and place it in the pan for 1 to 2 minutes on each side. Transfer your steak to the gril and cook it to whatever temperature you like.

To find out the temperature of the steak press your thumb to your pointer finger and touch the base of your thumb. That's what the steak feels like when it's rare to medium rare. Do the same with your thumb and middle finger, that's what a medium steak feels like. Your thumb and ring finger feels like a medium well steak. And a well down steak feels like the base of your thumb when you press the thumb with your pinky finger.
