By Andrew Demarest

KULR-8 Television Promotions Director, Andrew Demarest was granted the opportunity to sit down with Rob Zombie before his performance with Alice Cooper that night. Here he speaks about his relationship with Cooper, how he broke into films and why the internet is such an unreliable source.

KULR-8: In 1996 you recorded “Hands of Death” with Alice Cooper for an X-Files compilation CD. Did that kick off this musical relationship?

Rob Zombie: Before that I had met [Alice Cooper] in ’94. I presented an award to him and then I believe in ’95 he came on stage one time and played with us, with White Zombie. That’s when we first did anything.

KULR-8: Did you continue that relationship? Is that what lead to this tour?

Rob Zombie: We had stayed in touch all those years over different things and when I had left White Zombie or when White Zombie fell apart, I talked to Alice about it ‘cause he had gone through the same thing when his band fell apart. I talked to him a lot at that point as friends throughout the years and we played together on each others stages but not to this capacity.

KULR-8: You’ve toured with Ozzy Osbourne and now Alice Cooper, which has been the wildest for you?

Rob Zombie: Alice is everything to me. I like Ozzy but Alice was the person I grew up loving and he set the standard for live shows. So, I think that I would give Alice everything over Ozzy on that front. Everything about him is the best.

KULR-8: Did Alice get you to Golf yet?

Rob Zombie: No, Alice goes golfing all the time, but I don’t go with him ‘cause I don’t golf. You know? I’m not gonna go there and goof around.

KULR-8: You had said that you were going to quit making “physical music” and go completely digital…

Rob Zombie: Yeah, I never said that. It’s so funny, I’ve answered that question 900,000 times, because you can’t ever say anything without it being [misquoted]. What I said was, unfortunately it seems as if this CD would be my last CD only because the industry wanted to go all digital. Not ‘cause I wanted too. As long as they press CD’s, I will make CD’s. I don’t like digital music. I mean, it’s great if you need to hear a song real quick for reference, but I like having the physical product even though that’s becoming an outdated idea.

KULR-8: How did you get involved in films? Was it something you pursued?

Rob Zombie: Getting into movies was difficult. It was something I pursued. I had directed a lot of music videos over the years. About 25-30 videos. That was a good training ground but, I was bored with the idea of that. It’s fun but, it’s limiting. I had tried to get into movies way before it ever happened. So, there had been a lot of failed attempts that people don’t know about, until the House of 1,000 Corpses materialized as an actual film.

KULR-8: You’ve written comic books like “Spookshow International” and “The Nail”. Do you have any new comics coming out?

Rob Zombie: I like doing comics because it’s very controllable. It’s a very tiny world. I have a new comic coming out May 26th called “Whatever Happened to Baron VonShock” [from Image Comics].

KULR-8: What can we expect from the Gruesome Twosome?

Rob Zombie: We’ve decided in a very humble manor that this will be the greatest rock n’ roll show you will ever see! EVER! And if you think you’ll ever see a better one, you are sadly mistaken.

KULR-8: What are your plans for the foreseeable future?

Rob Zombie: After the Coop tour ends I’m gonna do “Mayhem” with Korn. That will go all summer. Then we’ll try to put together something in the fall, but this is what we’re focused on right now.
