Finalists chosen for Rimrock Opera’s Margaret Kimball Operatic Competition

Rimrock Opera presents its inaugural Margaret Kimball Operatic Competition on Friday, July 6, 7:00 PM in Petro Theater, MSU-Billings. Six finalists were chosen anonymously from a field of 26 entrants from the Northwest Region. In the opinion of the panel of professional judges, they will represent a high caliber of artistry at the finals.

Finalists are:

Holly Boaz, soprano, Vashon, Washington
Betany Coffland, mezzo-soprano,
Boise, Idaho
Christopher Johnson, baritone, Billings
Sarah Kim, soprano,
Henderson, Nevada
Bradley Thompson, baritone,
Superior, Colorado
Catherine Viscardi, soprano, Bozeman
The six finalists will compete for $3,000 in cash awards. The winners will perform with the “Billings Opera Stars” in the Saturday, July 7, 2007 concert, also at Petro Theater. The public is invited to both events. Tickets will be available at the door for $15 adults, half price for children under 10. See complete information on both events at www.rimrockopera.org

Henrietta Johnstone, longtime Rimrock Opera Board Member and benefactor, has helped to establish the voice competition to encourage future opera stars, and has underwritten the event in memory of her sister, Margaret Kimball. This financial assistance may be applied by the young artists to their undergraduate or graduate education or for other expenses incurred in the pursuit of an operatic vocal career.

The biennial competition is open to all singers who are U.S. citizens and residents or students of the states of Montana, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Colorado, Wyoming, or Utah. Contestants between the ages of 18-35 were invited to submit two arias on cassette or CD.
