Event Description

The “Health Care for Montanans” program will award a maximum of 9 scholarships during the Spring 2009 semester. Each scholarship is for $2,000 and can be used to pay for classes during the Fall 2009 semester. The scholarships can be used at any four-year college or university within the state university system which offers degrees in the health care shortage areas including:
- Montana State University-Bozeman
- Montana State University-Billings
- Montana State University-Northern
- University of Montana-Missoula
- Montana Tech of the University of Montana-Butte
- Carroll College-Helena
- University of Great Falls–Great Falls
- Rocky Mountain College-Billings

All Montana residents enrolled in their junior or senior year at any of these schools and majoring in the public health, nursing, or other shortage areas are encouraged to apply. The student must be in their junior or senior year and have a GPA of at least 3.0 to be eligible for the scholarship. Applicants need to be interested in pursuing a health care career in the state of Montana after graduation.

Scholarship packets with the official application and the complete set of requirements are available at all of the following locations:
- Office of the Commissioner of Higher Education in Helena
- New West Headquarters in Helena
- Financial aid offices at all participating schools

Completed scholarship applications will be due by Wednesday, April 15, 2009, and should be returned to the New West headquarters in Helena. The winners will be announced by April 30, 2009. This is the second year for the annual “Health Care for Montanans” scholarship, and is part of New West’s commitment to connecting people to good health care in a simplified way.
