Your health: Study shows breast cancer is linked to bacteria
Cleveland Clinic researchers have uncovered differences between the breast tissue of healthy women and women with breast cancer. Doctor Charis Eng says the bacteria living in and on the body are known as the micro-biome. Research on the gut micro-biome has shown when this system gets out of balance, it becomes easier for disease to grow. Healthy, non-cancerous breast tissue had more of a certain type of bacteria and cancerous tissues had other types of elevated bacteria.
